If you have children, or grandchildren, then you’ll most probably have been subjected to watching the same films over and over again.
For me Trolls World Tour (or TWT) is one of these films.
Ok, I confess – I actually enjoy it – please don’t tell anyone I said that!
Why do I like it?
Well, to be honest the music isn’t too bad, but there’s also a pretty good lesson to be learnt that can be applied in business.
Firstly we can all agree that we are living in a time of accelerated, turbulent change.
According to TWT, at times like this, collaboration is the answer.
That got me thinking about what this means in a business context and here’s what I concluded…
It’s long been my contention that without collaboration we will not be able to resolve the complex problems that accelerated, turbulent and multi-disciplinary change is producing.
To collaborate, mutual trust and respect are needed.
With mutual respect we accept each other’s differences. We accept others for who they are, trust their motives and are willing to learn from and work with them.
When we accept each other’s differences we invariably make better decisions together than anyone of us can make alone.
When we collaborate we can all benefit from the implementation of decisions that we are making together. We’re open and willing to listen to different voices, opinions and ideas.
My Final Thoughts?
Differences, in all forms, create vibrant cultures, improved responsiveness to employee and customer needs, greater innovation and creativity, and helps businesses compete in an increasingly globalised marketplace.
In the words of the Audre Lorde:
“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognise, accept and celebrate those differences.”
What’s your approach to leading a business that positively seeks out, accepts and celebrates differences?
Just thinking 😊
